Hidden away in Central Oregon’s high desert, the Boyd Cave Hike is a short and exciting excursion that will take your breath away. This one-of-a-kind lava tube hike will lead you through a dark underworld filled with some of the most otherworldly scenery in the Beaver State.
Located near Bend, Boyd Cave is a unique lava tube hike that will take you on the adventure of a lifetime.
Starting at the cave entrance, you'll descend down a metal ladder that leads into a dark underworld.
Once you're below ground, make sure to have a headlamp or flashlight handy, as well as some warm layers. It's complete darkness from here on out.
The trail leads you through a fascinating underground world, which dates between 75,000 and 400,000-years-old. While the trail is fairly flat, there are a few sections where you will have to climb over some rocks and other small obstacles.
The subterranean hike also includes one area with low ceilings that requires you to crawl through on your hands and knees.
In total, the hike is 1.1 miles round trip, and can be easily completed by hikers of any skill level.
