Oregon’s High Desert is a place that’s full of surprises. For starters, it’s home to some of the most beautiful, fertile land in the state, flush with farms, vineyards, and orchards. It’s an incredibly beautiful and geographically varied region, with a lush and colorful landscape unlike any other *desert* in the country. The newly launched High Desert Food Trail — the first of its kind in Central Oregon — showcases the bounty of this oft-misunderstood region, spotlighting the area’s best restaurants, breweries, and wineries. But we’re going to take it a step further, and posit that the best pizza in Oregon is also hiding deep in the High Desert, at Blondie’s Pizza in Sunriver.
Nestled in the High Desert of Central Oregon, Sunriver is a vision of golden fields of sagebrush and wild grasses, snow-capped mountains, cobalt rivers, and rolling, resplendent landscape.
Just like the deserts of the Southwest, Oregon's deserts experience dramatic temperature fluctuations, oscillating as much as 60 degrees in the span of a single day. And it's within this slice of paradise that many of Oregon's best crops thrive, providing a ROYGBIV bounty to local markets and restaurants.
Which brings us to this treasure of a restaurant located in the heart of Sunriver: Blondie's Pizza. Since 1989, Blondie's has been dishing up some of the best pies in the Beaver State, providing sustenance to hungry patrons, many of which wander in straight from the trails.
The offerings here are inspired by the local landscape. The Sunriver Supreme, for example, features mushrooms, olives, pepperoni, sausage, and barbecue chicken. Another fan favorite is the "River Runner," which is piled high with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, salami, beef, sausage, and mushrooms.
In addition to serving the best pizza in Oregon, Blondie's is also a favorite spot to unwind and unplug after a day spent hiking, climbing, and exploring.
