I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
There are numerous epic overlooks in Oregon that require little more than a quick hike — or a road trip detour. Oregon’s Astoria Column is one such place. On Coxcomb Hill in Astoria, Oregon, 164 steps are all that stands between you and sweeping Columbia River Bar views. So what are you waiting for? Let’s go on a bucket-list adventure!
Without a doubt, Astoria is one of the most beautiful cities in Oregon.
You'll notice the tower is covered in murals depicting Oregon history. In fact, the Astoria Column was dedicated by the Great Northern Railway in 1926 as a way to celebrate Oregon's pioneer founders.
While the Astoria Column is not handicap accessible, the grounds and surrounding area are. In fact, there's a delightful little area at the base of the column that offers equally breathtaking views!
Have you ever trekked to the top of this overlook before? If so, we’d love to hear about it — and see your photos! Learn more and plan your adventure to Oregon’s Astoria Column right here.
