Just off the Turner Turnpike between Tulsa and Oklahoma City is a humble little bbq stand that just won a world championship. The Butcher BBQ Stand is now a 2x world bbq champion, and after just one bite of their perfectly smoked meat, you’ll see why. Keep scrolling to read all about it.
Butcher BBQ is located at 3402 West Hwy 66 in Wellston, just off the Turner Turnpike.
The 2018 Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue took place in October in Tennessee and the winner was the one and only Butcher BBQ from Wellston, Oklahoma.
After exiting the Turner Turnpike at Wellston, you'll see an old truck out near the road with the signage and a big tent and stand behind it. Be prepared that you will most likely encounter a wait. The word is spreading that this is "the" place to go for bbq in the Sooner State.
This delicious bbq stand is only open on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. But don't wait too late in the day, if they sell out before closing time, they shut down for the day.
From burnt ends to brisket to pulled pork, you'll find all your favorites on the menu. The menu even offers family size meals that come with two or three sides, dessert, and bread.
During the colder months, there are heaters to help keep you warm. Plus, there is a giant Jenga, horseshoe games, and more. They are more of a "destination" spot than a grab-n-go stand.
