If you’re looking for an adventurous family outing, there are three caves right above Turner Falls that are a blast to explore. Now, this isn’t the type of outing to take if you have little kids, but if they are able to climb and hike, this is an adventure to remember. Not only can you go into the caves but you can hike in the mountains surrounding the waterfall and even visit an abandoned castle.
Turner Falls Park is located just six miles from downtown Davis in south-central Oklahoma in the heart of the Arbuckle Mountains. It's home to the tallest waterfall in the state, standing at 77 feet tall.
There are three caves in the park that can be accessed by the hiking trails. They are hidden so you have to look for them. You'll have to climb over some rocks and traverse un-level terrain, so be prepared for a more difficult hike.
You can access the caves year-round but the park is more crowded during the summer months when visitors are swimming in the falls and pool. If you visit in the winter be very cautious of slippery areas.
Isn't this a great view out of this cave straight to the falls? This cave is a little harder to access than the other two caves and requires more rock climbing but the views are worth it.
Families that love to explore the outdoors will have a blast on this fun adventure. It's not very often you find caves in Oklahoma that you can go inside of.
In addition to the caves, you can also hike to an abandoned castle in the park. Collings Castle was built in the 1930s and is open to the public to walk through. Just look for the signs once you are inside the park.
