Originally built in 1905, the Southern Belle railroad car was known as the “Sweetheart of American Trains,” and was a passenger train of the Kansas City Southern Railway. This car had an established route from 1940 to 1969 from Kansas City to New Orleans – an 868-mile journey and transported WWII troops.
Although many were saddened when the Southern Belle stopped its journey, a few local train buffs decided to refurbish one of its cars and opened a restaurant called Southern Belle in Heavener. Today it is arguably one of the best places to eat in Oklahoma.
