From Oklahoma’s Bermuda Triangle to restless, antagonizing spirits, you’ll find many terrifying places in the Sooner State that may haunt your dreams tonight.
Wintersmith Park Historic District provides over 150 acres of enjoyable activities. As night falls and the park becomes dark, it becomes a bit eerie at the dam that holds back Wintersmith Lake. The locals say the real terror lies at the bottom of the dam. An irritable man-or spirit of an irritable man- resides in the spillway below, waiting for a passerby to harass. They warn you not to provoke or bother him. Otherwise, he might run up the embankment to the wooden overpass and torment you with thrashing arms and bewildering threats.
Two spots at Lake Jed Johnson will keep you looking over your shoulder. The first is a dam located at the south end of Lake Jed Johnson. There are stairs that lead you down to the water's surface and this area is discouraged from visiting. Unearthly incidents have been reported by many visitors. Paranormal enthusiasts claim a women fell to her death and her spirit still resides near the dam. On the other side of the lake is a stone tower that overlooks the waters below. It was closed years ago, supposedly due to its popularity as a site for suicide attempts. Visitors who frequent the summit after dark, report hearing footsteps climbing the towers spiral staircase. Other strange events include screams of a woman that echo across the lake and strange behavior of the local wildlife around the tower around midnight.

Another spot that will terrify you in the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife is the Parallel Forest. This particular grove of conifers will grab your attention inside the refuge. The trees are not the usual irregular pattern that you would find in a forest. The tress grow in neat rows, all evenly spaced, like something you would see on a grid. If viewed from the air, it forms an almost perfect rectangle of evergreen. It was planted on purpose in this manner in 1912, but it is believed the surreal forest makes for the perfect environment for strange, supernatural experiences. Some visitors find themselves unable to walk more than a few feet in the forest before having to turn around and leave. Others report sounds of ethereal voices or beats of incorporeal Native American drummers. And there are those who think dubious activities go on in the forest. Wooden structures can also be found which look like they are part of ritual ceremonies.

In 1892, the area of Guthrie was chosen as the site of the first territorial prison, a much-needed development in helping gather and discipline the unruly bandits of the area. The inmates of the jail named it "Black Jail," due to its dreadful, almost unbearable, conditions. The jail's most famous inmate was James Phillips. He was scheduled to be hanged in 1907 for murders he committed. But as Phillips watched out his window as his personal gallows were being constructed, he went back on his bed and died before his scheduled hanging. The coroner's report allegedly states that Phillips "died of fright." The Black Jail still stands at the corner of Noble Avenue and Second Street in Guthrie. It is said to be haunted by the ghost of Phillips and other former inmates.
Just off Interstate 35, just north of the Red River, lies Brown Springs surrounded by thick brush and woods. Just yards away lies a cemetery that has been known for generations as a place of misfortune. This cemetery originated with the deaths of several outlaws in the 1800s. In 1988, 2 men on a murder spree killed 4 people. The last known victim was shot and robbed of his car, which was found submerged in Brown Springs. Several other bodies have been found over the years in Brown Springs. Those brave enough to take the hike back to the cemetery at night, have encountered unusual noises, lights and visions.
Between Weatherford and Hydro, about 2 miles north of Interstate 40, is a location marked "Dead Women's Crossing." The site is pretty underwhelming, just a concrete bridge over an ordinary creek. So why does such an usual spot receive official recognition from the authorities? The truth is, a woman really was found dead there, murdered more than a century ago, and her tale yet remains a mystery. Her name was Katy DeWitt James and her remains were discovered in 1905. Her murder has yet to be solved and many theories exist about her disappearance and murder. But one thing is certain, her body was discovered near the bridge at the edge of Custer County and bears the name Dead Woman's Crossing.

The Gatewood Historic District of Oklahoma City contains Carey Place, a quiet block of Mediterranean and Spanish style homes dating back to the 1930's. On one particular corner stands what the locals refer to as the Hatchet House, the ominous setting known for a gruesome murder that occurred many years ago. The house's name comes from the unusual and disturbing-looking shutters that frame the house's windows-a cutout of a medieval-style ax. Kitchen Lake lies just southwest of Oklahoma City and is the home of the so-called Kitchen Lake Witch. Her home, which is only a concrete slab now, is located about a mile down from the lake. The house burned down many years ago, along with the woman who owned the home. Her remains are believed to be buried nearby and might help explain strange phenomena that is witnessed in the area. Dead, headless animals are common to find, the remains of the house's chimney would produce smoke (no longer exists), all the trees in the vicinity are dead, dying, fallen or violently split in two. The so-called "Kitchen Lake Witch," is thought to haunt the area and walk behind those that venture out in the area at night.

The mansion was originally built by John M. Bayless for his family of 8 in the early 1900's. Mr. Bayless died before the home was finished and the mansion is said to be haunted by the Bayless family. Strange noises, lights dimming on their own, hazy figures in dim lights and many other strange, unexplainable occurrences have been reported by many visitors. Hot and cold spots felt around this Gothic style mansion, make it a terrifying place to spend the night.
Known as a very haunted, terrifying place in Oklahoma, Wheelock Mission is captured by many numerous, dangerous spirits. It was reported that a man once got into the mission and murdered several girls. From that day, the spirits of those girls are suppose to wander the place. Bleeding from trees, apparitions of girls hanging themselves and sitting on the roof, make this place one of the most terrifying in Oklahoma.
This historic hotel offers murder-mystery weekend getaways for those seeking a thrill. But it is not all fun and games at the historic Stone Lion Inn in Guthrie. Many ghosts inhabit the inn and like to make their presence known by startling guests. A daughter of the man that built the home, died in the home at the age of 8. She is known to play with her toys and be heard in her room. There appear to be several other restless souls in the mansion.
