Train rides in Oklahoma aren’t easy to come by. Over the years, we’ve lost several scenic train rides but there’s one that still remains that offers a ride all the way to Texas and back. We put together a fun trip that’s every train enthusiast’s dream. Spend the day riding the train, then spend the night in an authentic red caboose.
The Amtrak Heartland Flyer train departs from Oklahoma City and travels all the way to Fort Worth and back...all in one day.
The train departs around 8:30 a.m. and arrives in Fort Worth around 12:30 p.m. You can enjoy about 4 hours in Fort Worth before it's time to head back to OKC.
Along the route, you'll make 5 stops in Norman, Purcell, Pauls Valley, Ardmore, and Gainesville, TX before arriving at the final destination in Fort Worth, TX. The train will depart around 5:30 p.m. and arrive back in OKC at around 9:30 p.m.
Also located near OKC is a 1925 authentic red caboose that's listed on Airbnb.com. Book an overnight night stay to continue this fun train-themed trip. The caboose is located about 20 minutes from the OKC train station, so it's just a short drive over to Jones.
The caboose sleeps 3 guests and has almost all 5-star reviews with over 300 guests giving their feedback. It's located on a little farm and provides a unique experience you won't find at a hotel.
Inside there is a queen-sized bed, a single bed, and a bathroom. There's also a mini-fridge, a television with train-themed movies, air conditioning, a coffee maker, and more.
