Oklahoma is home to many quirky roadside attractions and one of my favorites is the Shattuck Windmill Museum. This four-acre park is home to over 50 windmills, all of which are authentic from the last 100 years. It’s a fun (and free) day trip in the Sooner State that will take you back in time.

It's well worth a stop when you find yourself in the area, and best of all, admission is free. They date back to the 1850s and range in height from 18 feet to 5 feet tall. No two windmills are alike in the park and some are made from wood, while others are constructed from steel.

You'll find over 50 vintage windmills all closely standing next to each other in this quirky park. Windmills once littered northwestern Oklahoma when they were used to pull water out of the ground, but now the largest collection of them is found here in Shattuck.

Not only will you find these historic windmills at the park, but they have a replica George Schultz General Mercantile Store that is home to a general store from 1904.

They are open 7 days a week from sunup to sundown and when volunteers are present Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (May - November), you can visit the Visitor's Center.

You'll also find some old well drilling rigs from the early-to-mid 1900s that are fun to read about. It's cool to see how far we have come with modern-day equipment.
