Scuba diving usually isn’t what comes to mind when people think of outdoor activities in the Sooner State. But don’t judge too quickly! Oklahoma actually has a clear water paradise that is perfect for your next scuba diving adventure. Check it out:
Nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, Lake Tenkiller State Park is a gem in the woodlands of Oklahoma. The clear lake is surrounded by beautiful thick foliage, rugged cliffs, rolling hills, and spectacular views.
Because of the crystal clear waters, the lake is a popular destination for scuba diving. It features a new Scuba Dive Park that includes underwater attractions for divers to explore.
Visitors of all ages enjoy scuba diving in this breathtaking lake.
It's the perfect environment for divers of all skill levels. The area is roped off from boats and other watercraft, so you can feel safe while under the water.
There are two dive services that can outfit you with all the equipment and certification needed for scuba diving. The first place to check out is Gene's Aqua Pro Shop at 96638 Highway 10 in Gore.
They've been Oklahoma's dive shop since 1971 and you can count on them for all your scuba diving needs.
Scuba diving at Lake Tenkiller is very convenient. You can pull right up to the shore, park your car and enter the water from an old boat ramp.
Get ready to see a ton of cool things in the dive park. If you swim straight out about 30 feet, you'll see an old ski boat.
From there, if you head right about 60 yards you'll run into two old fishing boats.
Or head left to see an old school bus and plane.
Another business to check out is Nautical Adventures Scuba in Cookson. They offer scuba certifications and diving instruction at Lake Tenkiller. Make sure to check out their full moon dives for a totally unique diving experience.
Not only can you scuba dive in this gorgeous water, but there are beaches for swimming, kayak rentals, boating, fishing, and much more. Get the family together and take a weekend trip to enjoy the crystal clear waters of northeastern Oklahoma.
