It’s hard to believe that Oklahoma is home to a “mini-desert” that is filled with sand dunes, ranging in height from 25 to 75 feet. If you travel to northwestern Oklahoma, you’ll discover these incredible sand dunes inside Little Sahara State Park. With over 1600 acres of sand dunes to explore, this diverse terrain is filled with outdoor activities. Read on to learn more about Oklahoma’s Little Sahara.
Little Sahara State Park is located in northwestern Oklahoma at 101 Main Street, Waynoka, OK.
Most visitors come to Little Sahara to ride dune buggies and ATV's. The dunes range in height from 25 to 75 feet, making it perfect for this popular activity.
The area of Waynoka has several places to rent 4x4 vehicles or you can bring your own. The cost to get on the sand is only $10 per person (not including the rental price of vehicles).
If you would like to visit the sand dunes but not ride a 4x4 vehicle, there is a newly built walkway and viewing platform where you can enjoy the sand dunes from afar.
The sand dunes have extremely fine quartz sand and is a must-see area. Take a trip to northwestern Oklahoma and check out the unusual topography of this beautiful "mini-desert."
