The wildlife is located in extreme southeast Oklahoma and covers 5,814 acres with several different habitats including woodlands, riparian zones, marshes, and wet prairie.
There are ten observation platforms throughout the area that make it easy to view wildlife and take photos. They also host birdwatching tours, so check on their website for more details (link at the bottom of article).
The American Alligator can also be found in Red Slough Management Area and from March through October it's prime season for alligator activity. They can weigh up to 800 pounds and grow up to 13 feet long.
Also, keep an eye out for some of the most colorful insects you've ever seen. This is a well-known spot for folks who love butterflies and dragonflies, and the species here are truly stunning.
It is not unusual to see over 100 species of birds in a day during the month of May. I think I could stare at these majestic pelicans all day long. What about you?
