If you’re looking for quirky places to visit in Oklahoma City, look no further than the American Pigeon Museum & Library. This museum is dedicated entirely to the history and culture of one of man’s oldest feathered friends – the pigeon! Keep scrolling to learn more about one of the quirkiest (and coolest) places you’ll ever go.
The American Pigeon Museum & Library is one of the quirkiest places you can visit in Oklahoma. Originally formed in 1973 as the American Homing Pigeon Institute, it has grown over the last 40 years to include a wide variety of historically significant artifacts from various pigeon fanciers.
Visitors to this unique destination can explore display cases that house hundreds of prized specimens from around the world, watch films about racing pigeon sports, and take part in interactive activities.
One of the exhibits is called War History and it shows how pigeons played an important role in World War I and II. Pigeons were used to transport messages and it's actually very fascinating to learn about this.
You will also be able to explore the exhibits that house hundreds of prized specimens from around the world and learn about their various breeds and origins.
If you're interested in getting a more hands-on experience, the museum also hosts various events throughout the year, so be sure and check the schedule on their website (link at end of article).
Admission is free of charge, and you can find operating hours and the event schedule on the American Pigeon Museum website. After a visit to the museum, we highly recommend you enjoy a good meal at Trappers Fish Camp in Oklahoma City.
