One area that I think if the most majestic in the Sooner State is the Ouachita National Forest in southeastern Oklahoma. It’s home to over 350,000 acres of natural beauty and is filled with recreation, perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. The Ouachita National Forest spans over 1.8 million acres in southeastern Oklahoma and into central Arkansas. It’s one of the most beautiful places in Oklahoma and is a must-see destination. You’ll encounter stunning mountain views, picturesque scenery, and the perfect setting for outdoor activities.
The forest is home to Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area where you'll find the infamous Talimena National Scenic Byway. It's a 50-mile scenic drive that traverses the mountains and offers picturesque views.
You'll also find stunning vistas and spots to pull off and enjoy the epic scenery. You could spend the whole day just exploring the stops along the drive.
There is an endless array of outdoor recreation in the mountains. From mountain climbing to hiking to fishing, there is something for every outdoor adventurer.
