Located across the street from the Governor’s Mansion in Oklahoma City, the OK History Museum sits on 18 acres and is known as a Smithsonian-quality museum that’s home to our state’s history. Right now they are closed, but you can explore over 215,000 square feet like never before on this virtual tour. Check it out below, then click the link at the bottom of the article to take your own online tour.
This world-class museum opened in 2005 on Nazih Zuhdi Drive in Oklahoma City and sits on almost two dozen acres. It's operated by the Oklahoma Historical Society and is the official history museum for the state of Oklahoma.
Right now you can't visit the museum in person, but soon it will reopen and you'll want to check it out because there are so many interesting and historical exhibits.
You can control the camera and walk the halls and enter rooms. As we were exploring the first-floor hall, we found this cool area that was devoted to the history of the pipe organ.
The museum preserves the history of Oklahoma from ancient Native American tribal nations to the present day. If you want to learn more about the 39 American Indian tribes, just click the button to enter this room on the first floor.
Another area you'll find on the first level is an art gallery on the wall that rotates throughout the year. Obviously, it doesn't change on the virtual tour so you can see some of these beautiful pieces of art that might not be around next year.
On the second and third-level you'll find special exhibits and more galleries. You could spend several hours virtually wandering around this historical museum and it's a great educational tool for any parents homeschooling right now!
