When it comes to a hike with beautiful views, you may picture a long treacherous trail that takes you to the top of a mountain where you find yourself looking down at the valleys below. In Oklahoma, there’s a hike with a stunning view, and you don’t have to venture up a giant mountain to enjoy it. Mountain Fork River Trail is located near Broken Bow and is perfect for anyone looking for an easy hike in Oklahoma along a serene river.
The trail can be found near Beavers Bend State Park.
By typing the coordinates (34.12459, -94.66805) into your GPS, you’ll easily be able to find the trailhead. The parking lot and gate entrance to the trail are located on a dead-end road past Acorn and Cypress campgrounds.
Mountain Fork River Trail is unpaved, however, extremely flat which makes it an easy hike for anyone who enjoys a scenic nature stroll.
The trail is a 2.6-mile out-and-back route and generally takes the average person a little under an hour to complete; that’s without veering off the path to take a dip in the river, of course. Dogs are welcome too but must be kept on a leash.

Mountain Fork River runs parallel to the trail and can be accessed at a few, somewhat hidden, points along the way.
Be on the lookout for mini trails like the one above, which will lead you directly to the water. The views of the water subside about a mile into the hike, so some hikers turn around when they can no longer see the river.
If you plan to check out Mountain Fork River Trail within a few days after it has rained, be sure to bring hiking boots or shoes that you don’t mind getting a little muddy.
The river might be the star of the show, but don’t forget to notice the berries, flowers, and mushrooms as you wander.
