One unique place to visit in the Sooner State is The Holy City of The Wichitas located just outside of Lawton. It began in 1926 as an Easter Passion Play and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. On the grounds of this extraordinary place, you’ll find a little church that is an absolute work of art. Take a look:
The Holy City of the Wichitas encompasses 66-acres in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. It was built to resemble Israel during Biblical times.
The buildings in the Holy City, including the chapel, are made out of locally quarried granite and there is a stone that came directly from the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem.
The Holy City is open during daylight hours and is free of charge. The church can be rented out for weddings or special events and is open to the public.
The Holy City is located approximately 22 miles NW of Lawton, or 10 miles W of I-44 at 262 Holy City Rd, Cache, OK 73527.
