If you’re looking for amazing Italian food, look no further than Krebs, Oklahoma. Known as Little Italy, Krebs is a tiny town in Pittsburg County that is home to several mouthwatering Italian restaurants. Many Italian immigrants settled in Krebs, a small coal mining town, before statehood and opened up shop to feed the town of miners. They brought with them their favorite family recipes that would impress any Italian food connoisseur. Besides Italy itself, Oklahoma’s Little Italy may just be good enough to be the next Italian food capital of the world and here’s why:
Krebs is situated next to McAlester in southeast Oklahoma and is home to about 2000 residents. This little Italian town is home to its very own Italian food market - Lovera's Italian Grocery. You can buy all those hard to find items at this specialty market such as their homemade sausage, Italian cheeses, olive oils and many other imported items. It's the ultimate stop for finding authentic Italian items. Address: 95 W 6th Street,
Krebs, OK.
But of course we all like to eat out from time to time, so you'll have to check out these Italian restaurants that have given Krebs its nickname "Little Italy."
Pete's is not only known for its delicious food but they're famous for their original Choc Beer - brewed right there at Pete's Place. On Saturday mornings you can tour the brewery and get an inside look (and taste) into Choc.
Isle of Capri opened in 1950 and offers all the Italian staple dishes diners look for at an Italian restaurant. From spaghetti to lasagna to corn-fed steer steaks, it's all delicious at Isle of Capri. Address: 150 SW 7th, Krebs, OK.
In 1975 Roseanna's opened its doors in Krebs and it's been a town favorite ever since. If you're a gnocchi lover, then you must try it at Roseanna's...it's amazing! Address: 205 E Washington, Krebs, OK.
Located just a few miles down the road from Krebs is GiaComo's Italian Cuisine - a family owned Italian Restaurant that opened in 1959. All entrees come with bread and salad with an amazing homemade dressing. Address: 501 S George Nigh Expressway, McAlester, OK.
Held every year in McAlester, this annual event is a favorite Oklahoma festival filled with Italian food, live entertainment, activities, craft booths and much more. 2017 dates are May 13th & 14th. Address: Southeast Expo Center: 4500 W Hwy 270, McAlester, OK.
