Where are some awesome hidden places in Oklahoma?  

Oklahoma doesn’t seem to get enough credit for its awesomeness. Oftentimes it’s overlooked as a “flyover” state by folks who have never even visited, and we feel like that’s totally unfair. After all, Oklahoma is a fascinating place with plenty of hidden gems to discover, as long as you know where to look. There are so many under-appreciated gems in the state that it’s impossible to list them all here, but some of our favorites include Greenleaf Lake, at Greenleaf State Park, which is known by locals for its crystalline, pure water. Marlow, Oklahoma, might just be the cutest little town you never heard of, and there’s a secret garden in the town of Grove. Need more ideas? Where can I find a hidden oasis in Oklahoma?  

An oasis, by definition, is typically something you’d come upon in a desert: hot and dry, there’s no water until you reach a tiny slice of paradise with trees, water, and cool comfort. Luckily for us, Oklahoma is by no means a desert, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have hidden, oasis-like places where you can retreat if life gets a little too loud. Medicine Park, Oklahoma, is often referred to as an oasis by visitors who leave charmed by its beauty and uniqueness. Clayton Lake State Park is an excellent hidden gem that often goes overlooked by tourists (but it shouldn’t be – check it out to see why).  

Are there any secret swimming holes in Oklahoma? 

There are! While other folks might go for the more obvious destinations like Broken Bow Lake, there’s a few spots that only the locals know about that you’ll surely want to add to your bucket list. Folks come from all over to see Turner Falls, but if you go above the falls and wander a bit upstream, you’ll find beautiful Honey Creek, mostly undisturbed and just about as peaceful as it gets. We mentioned Medicine Park above, but Bath Lake, which called Medicine Park home, is well worth a second mention. Near Salina, there’s an epic blue hole swimming pool, naturally sapphire as can be. Travertine Creek, in Sulphur, often gets overlooked in favor of Turner Falls – but you should certainly check it out!
