Gloss Mountain State Park is located about two hours northwest of Oklahoma City and offers topography you don’t normally come across in the Sooner State. The mountains have a high selenite content that mimics a shiny glass exterior, and there is a steep staircase that takes you to the top of the mountain where you can enjoy views of the valley below and majestic red native dirt as far as the eye can see. A visit here makes for a fun day trip and a unique hiking experience you can’t find anywhere else in the state.
Check it out below:
Gloss Mountain State Park is home to some of Oklahoma’s most unique jewels, and the 1.5-mile hike to the top takes you right to the rim of Cathedral Mountain, where you’ll get a view of some majestic scenery.
There’s a stairway that will take you to the top of the mountain, where you’ll see 360-degree views of some of the most unusual and spectacular topography in the state.
Once you get to the top, you'll see the trek up was worth it. Just be sure and bring your water along if you visit in summer...it can get pretty hot at the top of the mountain.
