It’s pretty surreal when you go to the movies and up pops a recognizable Oklahoma locale on the big screen. The Sooner state has been the backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters and continues to be a budget friendly spot for many producers. Here are 9 places in Oklahoma you’ll recognize from famous films:
Elizabethtown (2005) featured the Survivor Tree that is located at the Oklahoma National Memorial & Museum. Kirsten Dunst's character in the movie said this is her "Favorite tree in the world."
Pops, an iconic Route 66 stop, was filmed in Bringing Up Bobby (2011). The production crew spent several hours filming this diner, which features hundreds of soda flavors.

The waterfall at Natural Falls State Park can be seen in Where The Red Fern Grows (1974). The movie was adapted from a children's book written by Wilson Rawls, an Oklahoma author.

The blockbuster,Twister (1996), was filmed in Wakita and gave a suspenseful account of Oklahoma storm chasers. There is now a museum in town with memorabilia from the movie and a look inside the film-making tricks. The town water tower was caught on film, as was the house of Aunt Meg.

Another spot that made the cut in Twister was Owen Field in Norman.
The Grapes of Wrath (1940) featured a family that moved from Oklahoma to California during The Great Depression and Dust Bowl times. The Beckham County Courthouse was caught on camera as the family traveled along Route 66. The courthouse was built in 1911.
The recent filming of August: Osage County in 2013, featured many locations in Oklahoma. It was set in Osage County and many shots were taken at Tenkiller State Park.
Remember Max's Restaurant in The Killer Inside Me (2010)? Well, Max's was really Cattlemen's Steakhouse in Historic Stockyard City, OK. Even though the movie was about a small town in Texas, many scenes were shot in Oklahoma.

To The Wonder (2012), starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams, was a love story filmed in several parts of Oklahoma. One lovely scene was set in Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in Pawhuska.
