Some of the best fall foliage in the state is found along the Talimena National Byway but another stunning place in the state to enjoy the fall scenery is in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Besides the beautiful wildlife and gorgeous mountains, the place is so serene and truly something to marvel over in the fall season.
Take a look:
Located in southwest Oklahoma, the Wichita Mountains are rocky promontories full of natural beauty and breathtaking views. These mountains are home to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge – 59,000 beautiful acres full of free-roaming wildlife and unparalleled beauty.
Of course, this place is beautiful to visit all year long but during the fall season when the foliage turns bright orange, red, and yellow - the place takes on a completely different look and it's truly a marvel.
Mt. Scott, the second highest mountain in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, stands at 2,264 ft. above sea level. If you hike to the top you'll get a sweeping view of all of the fall colors.
Many popular fishing lakes can be found in the mountains, so if you like to fish be sure to bring the poles. There is also a short hike that will take you to Jed Johnson Tower.
If you're an early riser, I highly recommend getting to the refuge as the sun comes up to catch a glimpse of one of the most spectacular places to see a sunrise.
