If you’re looking to explore Oklahoma’s unique topography (and skies!), head to Black Mesa State Park where you’ll find flat-topped mesas, deep canyons, natural rock formations, and endless skies. This enchanting state park is full of unique Oklahoma scenery, not found anywhere else in the state. Get out of the city and enjoy the breathtaking blue skies and beautiful land that extend as far as the eye can see in Black Mesa.
Black Mesa State Park is located in far western Oklahoma in an area known as the Panhandle. You'll find it in the small town of Kenton at the tri-state border with Colorado and New Mexico.
The topography is gorgeous and rustic in the Panhandle. We recommend arriving in the area before it's dark and exploring the mesas, plateaus, and rock formations.
If you visit the park, make sure to allow time for hiking. There's so much to explore and you can hike to the highest point in the state located at the top of Black Mesa.
Millions and millions of stars decorate the night sky like you've never seen before. Thousands of people flock to the area every August to get a front row seat when the annual Perseid meteor shower is visible.
