There are some things in life that people do that are stupid, and then there are some that are REALLY stupid. Luckily for Oklahoma, these dumb criminals made it easy for law enforcement to track them down. From calling police themselves to leaving trails of evidence, these criminals were clearly not thinking.
1. Deep Fryer Gone Missing
In May 2015, two burglars in Chickasha kicked in the back door of their neighbors home and stole almost $4,000 worth of goods. Only one problem, they forgot to empty the oil out of the deep fryer they stole. The thieves left a trail of grease from the burglarized home all the way to their home across the street. When officers arrived and noticed the trail of grease, they knocked on the door of the burglars home and found the stolen items. The two men were booked on second degree burglary and concealing stolen property.
2. Man, Maternity Store, Indecent Exposure...Bad Combination.
Back in 2012, a man walked into a maternity store in Penn Square Mall and was trying to get the clerks phone number and invite her to lunch on a date. After the clerk refused, the man purchased a few items and went into the dressing room. He asked for her assistance and when she went to the dressing area, he was standing there in a bra and crotchless-panties. She refused to look at him and called the police after he left the store. He was later arrested on complaint of indecent exposure.
3. Sinful Activity Busted
In 2013, a man stole a computer from Owasso First Assembly of God Church and then makes an even dumber move. A few weeks after stealing the computer, the thief got frustrated he couldn't access porn, so he called tech support to ask for it to be removed. The computer had software installed called Covenant Eyes...which tracks sinful activity. The software company alerted the church who then notified the police. He was caught with the computer in his home and confessed to taking it.
4. Keep Your Mouth Shut
A man was on trial in Oklahoma City for armed robbery of a convenience store when he decided to fire his lawyer and represent himself. He was doing a fine job until the store manager was on the stand testifying he was the robber. The man stood up and yelled that she was lying and said, "I should have blown your .... head off." Then he paused and added, "If I was the one that was there." The jury found him guilty after 20 minutes of deliberation and recommended a 30 year sentence.
5. Drugs Found Here
In 2014, a woman in Enid called the police to report that her Meth was laced with something. When police arrived, she showed them her methamphetamine in a container. She admitted to the officers that she smoked meth earlier in the day. She and the substance tested positive for meth and she was arrested and booked in jail.
6. 9-1-1...We're Stealing.
Two thieves accidentally dialed 911 just after they robbed a house. They were discussing the jewelry they stole and other details of the crime. Police were able to track their cell phone and caught one of the suspects at a pawn shop selling the items. The thieves were targeting homes of grieving homeowners. They would check the obituaries in the paper, then rob the homes when the families were attending the funeral.
