Ready for an Oklahoma day trip that’s loaded with exploring and delicious food? Head to Freedom where you’ll find Alabaster Caverns State Park and an old general store that’s home to tasty, homestyle food and unique shopping. This Oklahoma day trip is not only loaded with fun but it’s like stepping back in time. Check it out below:
Alabaster Caverns State Park is located in the small town of Freedom and is known for its underground caves. It's also home to 200 acres and offers daily tours to visitors for a nominal fee.
The main cave extends about 0.75 miles into the mountain and branches out to other smaller caves. The tours take about 45 minutes and then you can explore the rest of the state park afterward.
This area in northwest Oklahoma is filled with beautiful scenery. There are hiking trails in the park and we recommend you bring your hiking shoes, water, and snacks.
After you spend several hours exploring the state park, head into town to Main Street where you'll find The Freedom Mercantile & Cafe. This old general store is like stepping back in time and we think you'll love everything about it.
They serve homestyle food that includes burgers, catfish, Indian tacos, fried chicken, salads, and more. They only serve breakfast and lunch so make sure you arrive before 3:30 p.m.
