The weather is perfect right now for camping in Oklahoma. Crisp, cool mornings and perfect temp days set the stage for the ideal setting to pitch a tent in the Sooner State. Now, you could camp in an area that’s close to the city but if you’re really looking to get away from it all, head to Black Mesa State Park, home to the most remote campground in all of the state.
Black Mesa State Park is located in the town of Kenton, along the tri-state border with Colorado and New Mexico. There's nothing around for miles and miles, which makes it the perfect place to get away from it all.
It is also home to the highest point in Oklahoma. This spot stands at an elevation of 4,973 feet above sea level and boasts some topography that looks like another planet.
Get away from the city lights and enjoy the serenity of nature while camping in one of the most beautiful spots in Oklahoma. RVs are also welcome, so if you own one bring it along.
The Black Mesa State Park Campground is nestled right on the banks of Lake Carl Etling. There are 25 tent sites and 29 RV sites here, and they're first-come, first-served.
This beautiful park covers 349 acres, and there are another 1,600 acres of protected nature preserve right next to it. You can spend an entire day exploring, hiking, and watching wildlife here.
