Bluestem Falls in Pawhuska is home to a hidden waterfall and it’s the perfect place to spend a picturesque summer day. It’s tucked away near Bluestem Lake, surrounded by huge trees and stunning views. It’s surprising how many Oklahomans don’t know about this hidden gem. Keep scrolling below for more details on this must-visit summer spot.
Bluestem Falls is created by the spillway from Bluestem Lake — and it’s a picture-perfect spot every nature enthusiast should visit. The next time you’re near the town of Pawhuska, head on over to the falls and enjoy this little slice of heaven right here in the Sooner State.
The water cascades over rocks, creating beautiful flowing falls. There are also several rock ledges that are popular for jumping, just be careful and make sure the water is deep enough below.
The spillway is east of the lake, so head that direction or follow the address at the bottom of this article. As you're hiking back to it, out of nowhere breathtaking falls will emerge as they cascade down cliffs of shale and sandstone into a pool below.
Be sure to also bring your swimming suits, towels, snacks, and water and make a day of it. It can get crowded in the middle of summer, so it's best to visit mid-week.
Depending on the flow of water from the spillway, the falls can be heavy or light. If you catch it on a day that's overflowing, it's even more breathtaking.
