If you’re a local history buff, you likely know that Ohio officially became a state on March 1,1803. Although plenty of things in life and society have changed since then, one truth remains: America simply wouldn’t be the same without Ohio. Ohio is full of some of the most beautiful covered bridges. In fact, it almost has the most covered bridges in the U.S. (Pennsylvania actually has the most, followed by Ohio.) Pictured is the Bridge of Dreams, which stretches over the Mohican River along the Mohican Valley Trail in Union Township.

Ohio has the largest Amish population of any state in the nation. (As of 2000, the Amish population in Ohio was 49,750. Pennsylvania comes in at number 2 with an Amish population of 40,100.)
