I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Cincinnati is known as Porkopolis for its history as an important meatpacking center along the Ohio River waterway. Once the largest pork processing center in the country, today, Cincinnati has proudly embraced this history by adopting the humble pig as its totem. You can find decorated pigs all across the city, and the annual Flying Pig Marathon has put Cincinnati on the map for reasons other than food, too! But pork remains a quintessential part of Cincinnati’s identity, so of course, a restaurant that serves a Flying Pig Burger doesn’t seem too weird. But what about a Girthburger or a Trainwreck? These wacky burgers are on the menu at Zip’s Cafe, an Ohio restaurant known for its wildly wonderful creations.
There are burgers... and then there are Zip's Burgers. Big difference.
Located in the charming neighborhood of Mt. Lookout, just north of Cincinnati, Zip's Cafe has been dishing up the best, most crave-worthy, behemoth burgers in Ohio for 90 years!
It's difficult to describe Zip's Cafe as anything other than a vibe. The inside is weather-worn and impossibly cozy; it's the kind of place folks pile into booths to watch a game with a burger and a beer...
You see, Zip's Cafe has gained a reputation for the best burgers in Cincinnati -- and Ohio. Yet while the eponymous Zip's Burger constantly graces local listicles and "Best Of" guides, it's the weird and wacky burgers that really steal the show.
Meet the Girthburger, a Zip Burger with a grilled Mettwurst -- yes, as a component within the burger. Because really, if your burger doesn't have a Mett on it, is it even a burger?
(Add three types of cheese to this beast, and you have the Train Wreck, by the way.)
Craving all.the.meat? The Flying Pig is the kind of burger that would make Ron Swanson swoon: it's a Zip Burger topped with shaved ham *and* two slices of bacon.
(Though you might actually have to run a marathon to work off this bad boy! Worth it, though.)
No matter what you choose, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu at Zip's. A classic Zip Burger and side of fries sounds pretty darn perfect to us!
But if you're feeling a little spicy, you can most certainly indulge your wild side at Zip's.
