I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
The Buckeye State often surprises us in terms of cuisine. In addition to iconic Ohio foods like Cincinnati-style spaghetti and Columbus-style pizza, global dishes like Polish pierogis, Japanese ramen, and German sausage and sauerkraut are just as ubiquitous. But authentic Creole and Cajun cuisine in Ohio? Absolutely. In Cleveland, The Bourbon Street Barrel Room offers diners the whole NOLA experience. With a menu inspired by iconic New Orleans dishes, the food at this Ohio restaurant is vibrant, spicy, and downright delicious.
With its French-Creole decor and jazzy lights and ambiance, this restaurant could easily pass for a dining spot in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana.
...thanks to The Bourbon Street Barrel Room in Cleveland, Ohio! Led by esteemed chef and Southern Louisiana native, Johnny Schulze, The Bourbon Street Barrel Room offers a relaxed, casual, and fun atmosphere while serving authentic New Orleans cuisine.
The menu is unabashedly spicy and full of all the vibrant flavors of Cajun and Creole cuisine. Chef Johnny's robust menu includes everything from gumbo and jambalaya to crawfish étouffée and beignets.
The menu is a fun (and pun-filled) homage to New Orleans, with dishes such as Hot Rocks, Voodoo Tenders, Bayou Burgers, Baton Rouge BBQ Chicken Sandwiches, and French Market Andouille a celebration of New Orleans cuisine.
Everything on the menu here is delicious and full of pizzazz, but the muffuletta is a standout. Hot pressed and stacked with loads of mortadella, salami, Genoa ham, provolone cheese, and tangy olive tapenade, this sandwich is a party in your mouth with each and every bite!
Pair your meal with a craft cocktail; while The Bourbon Street Barrel Room boasts a robust array of 30 rotating craft beer handles from some of the best breweries in the world, the cocktail menu is as NOLA as it gets, with the Mardi Gras Grenades and King Cake cocktails must-try libations.
For dessert, nothing is quite as deliciously delightful as the beignets. Powdered sugar dunked and pillow soft, these tasty little donuts are dangerously addictive.
If you're able to snag a seat in the outdoor patio, do it! With twinkle lights and umbrella-topped tables in this red brick alleyway (complete with wrought iron balconies!) looks like a scene straight out of the French Quarter.
Have you dined at this delightful New Orleans-style restaurant in Ohio? The Bourbon Street Barrel Room is a vibrant and delicious addition to the dining scene in Ohio we’re pleased as punch to have.
