April is the Ohio staff writer for Only in Your State. She is an Ohio native with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. With more than 10 years of writing experience and a background in news reporting for Ohio newspapers, she's published pieces in multiple print and online publications. When she's not on deadline or chasing after her toddler, she's hunting for hidden gems in Ohio or getting lost in a good book.
Although stereotypes are not a healthy way to view the world, Ohio has undeniably cultivated some pretty common habits and traits within our natives throughout the course of their lives in this state—and they’re really easy to spot. The following are just a small sample of the types of people you are guaranteed to encounter in Ohio, but their personality traits don’t just stop there. (Talk to them for more than five minutes. You’ll see.)
5) The all-knowing oracle of all things Ohio (These people can tell you everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Ohio. And they can probably give you the exact coordinates of the locations where all the U.S. presidents from Ohio lived and grew up. I mean, I’ve never actually asked any of them this, but it’s worth a shot.)
6) The all-season amusement park/zoo and aquarium/water park pass holder who refuses to miss out on anything that might be happening at Cedar Point or any other park that proves to be their absolute favorite.
11) The hipsters who bike to work, appreciate and/or create street art and give us drip coffee. (You can usually find them at places like The Short North.)
15) The explorers who have road tripped all over the state and really appreciate it for what it is. (These people are my personal favorites. You’ll likely find them geocaching or photographing outside somewhere. Join them.)
