Haters just don’t understand (and they never will— because they’re haters.) Here in Ohio there are several things we get bashed for, but in spite of it all our love for Ohio prevails.

1) Buckeye fans and Ohio State football.

We get a lot of hate because we love the Buckeyes and "that’s all we talk about"—but we’re absolutely, whole-heartedly going to keep doing this. We love it, and we bond through it.
2) Our swing state status.

Sure, we’re controversial at times, but we keep you on your toes and we like that. We’re highly opinionated and highly divided, but that makes us interesting and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
3) Skyline Chili because “it’s not real chili."

We know it’s not your normal chili. That’s why we don’t say, "It’s normal time!" (That’s boring, guys. Boring.)
4) Our farmland and cornfields.

Listen. It’s beautiful. It’s freaking beautiful. And it yields us the most delicious home-grown food in the country. So please, lay off the farm hating, guys.
5) Our pride in aviation.

We are clearly the birthplace of aviation and we’re more than tired of the North Carolina dispute. Let’s move on already.
6) Our seemingly illogical love for sports teams that don’ have the best track record of winning.

11) Our small towns.

I don’t really understand the haters on this one. For a lot of us, our small towns contain the best childhood memories, surprisingly rich history, fresh and locally produced food, and several one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants anyone could ask for. (News flash: Big cities can’t really do that for you.)
12) Our suburbs.

Again, this one is hard to understand. They’re safe, memorable, and fun to grow up in. (News flash: This is not a bad thing.)
13) When we bash our own state but get angry when people who don’t live here do.
