I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
When I was a kid, my brothers and I used to have epic Big Wheels races on our driveway. We’d pedal our little legs furiously up and down our driveway, and I, as the oldest, pretty much always emerged victorious. (Did my brothers want to speak to the race caller? Yes. Was that also me? Yes indeed.) While my days of Hot Wheels upsets are long behind me, I’m sure I’m not the only adult who still has a nostalgic spot for these big-wheeled bikes. So when I discovered an adult big wheel race coming to Ohio this summer, naturally, I thought y’all would like to hear about it, too!
I think we can all agree that we need to have more fun in our lives. Being an adult can be so... serious. Why not let loose and live a little?
Starting promptly at 2 p.m., each race will consist of two teams starting from the top of the hill. Once the horn blows, the two pushers will have 10 feet to push their big-wheel driver down the course. The driver then has to navigate the course as fast as possible to cross the finish line for victory.
Big wheels are provided for teams, and this year, the event is happening in partnership with Huffy Bicycles, maker of the Big Green Machine.
Oh, and the fun doesn't stop there. Racers might have to face such challenges as an onslaught of... water balloons! Only the strongest will emerge victorious... and dry.
Of course, all of this fun does not come at the cost of safety. Adult bodies don't bounce back they way they used to -- happily, there are straw "bumpers" along the course and helmets aren't just a fashion statement, they are a race requirement.
Gloves, shirts and pants, and closed-toe shoes are also required by race participants.

Family friendly and oodles of fun, all proceeds from the race go to benefit Cincinnati's historic Pendleton neighborhood. After the race, stay and enjoy brews, food truck, and the delightful company of your fellow young-at-heart Ohioans.
