Yet even still, you may be surprised to learn just how many restaurants in Ohio have historic significance. Today’s feature destination is one of them, and it’s impressive on every level. The Spread Eagle Tavern & Inn holds the title of Ohio’s oldest tavern. Dating back to the early 1800s, this building has experienced a lot of Ohio history.
Nearly 200 years ago, the town of Hanover experienced a flourishing economy thanks to the canal boom.
Hanover played an important role in the Sandy & Beaver Canal and was also a crucial link in the underground railroad.
In 1837, the iconic Spread Eagle Tavern & Inn was established on Plymouth Street and still remains one of the best examples of Federal Period architecture.
The moment you step inside the tavern, you won't help but sense the history infused within the walls. There are no less than seven dining rooms that guests can choose from, each one with its own distinct character.
Additionally, there are five guest rooms where visitors can stay the night. For more information about making your overnight reservation at the inn, click here.
