I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
There’s a scene in “Harold and the Purple Crayon” where the Crayola-wielding protagonist conjures up a picnic of pies. “There was nothing but pie. But there were all nine kinds of pie that Harold liked best.” The tot then feasts on pie and shares his bounty with a hungry moose and “deserving porcupine.” Harold would certainly love today’s feature destination, a roadside stop in Ohio that specializes in classic American meals… and pie. So much pie. The menu at Schmucker’s Restaurant has 20 of these delicious desserts, in fact, making this diner the sweetest roadside stop in Ohio.
For 75 years, Schmucker's Restaurant has been serving up Toledo's diner favorites.
The inside of this restaurant is peak "small-town diner" vibes, with old-fashioned stools and Formica countertops that are delightfully mid-century modern.
At Schmucker's, "comfort" and "pie" go hand in hand. This diner is famous for its pies, which are the perfect blend of sweet fruit, creamy filling, and flaky crust.
Happily, the pie menu changes often, with seasonal pies adding an extra wrinkle in the (delicious) decision process. This Chocola-Scotch pie? If you see it on the menu, get it!
Of course, there are other things on the menu at Schmucker's. In classic diner form, the restaurant has a house burger that's a must-try. This is the Wimpy Burger, and it's a fan favorite!
