Here in Ohio, our small towns and cities are more resilient than you might think. This year, the Studer Community Institute presented eight communities in America with the Community Resiliency Award and two Ohio towns were recipients. The cities of Chillicothe and Springfield were recognized for their efforts to create a more vibrant, stronger and unified community.

Recently, two Ohio towns were recognized for their community efforts and given the Community Resiliency Award by the Studer Community Institute. Ohio's first capital, Chillicothe (pictured), was recognized.

A nonprofit organization focused on improving the quality of life in communities, the Studer Community Institute gave less than 10 communities in America the Community Resiliency Award.
The city of Springfield, Ohio was also given the Community Resiliency Award.

The Studer Community Institute asked cities, towns and counties in America to share some of the steps they were taking in their communities to grow stronger and more vibrant.

Other communities in America that received the award include Columbia, Mississippi, Elkins, West Virginia, Hot Springs, Arkansas, Martin County, Florida, Palatka, Florida and Stillwater, Oklahoma.
While COVID-19 has altered everyday life for people all over the world in many ways, it's also provided a time for strong community and resilience to develop.

From healthcare needs to economic challenges, the global pandemic hasn't been easy on any country, state or town.
Specifically, the city of Chillicothe was recognized for its formation of a Community Response Team, made up of city employees, government agencies, nonprofits, schools, mental health providers, housing authorities and the local chamber of commerce.

In addition to health and economic concerns, the group met virtually to discuss a unified approach to housing, food insecurity, schools and mental health.
