I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
My mom hails from Mt. Vernon, met my dad at Ohio State University (go Buckeyes!), and chose to settle down and start a family in Cincinnati, in a small suburb near where my dad grew up. My mom often felt homesick for the countryside; specifically, the farm in Knox County where her grandmother lived. Because of this, I spent many weekends in Central Ohio as a kid, and many more weekends exploring the countryside closer to home; namely, the small town of Peebles. A tiny town in Adams County, Peebles is the kind of place you go to get away from it all, and there’s a lovely and remote retreat in Ohio where you can do just that.
Adams County is a resplendent region of Ohio that doesn't get nearly the love it deserves. This area, tucked in between Cincinnati and Marietta -- or, Hueston Woods State Park and Hocking Hills State Park, if you measure distance that way -- is naturally brilliant and bucket-list worthy.
This area offers lots of hiking opportunities -- the Ohio Brush Creek Hiking Trail is a favorite at Serpent Mound -- perfect for getting lost in nature; it's virtually impossible to *not* feel an immense sense of awe and wonder here. Peace and quietude are all but guaranteed, too -- especially when you pair your trip to Serpent Mound with a visit at The Sanctuary.
Step up to the wraparound porch and you'll immediately feel a sense of calm. Surrounded by Brush Creek State Forest, this cabin is a world into itself in one of Ohio's most untouched and remote natural areas.
Inside, warm wood and large picture windows allow for lots of natural light -- as you can imagine, "golden hour" is positively magical at The Sanctuary! Taxidermy and a stone fireplace add an element of "rustic lodge" to the mix.
This remote and cozy cabin is a hidden gem nestled a truly beautiful slice of the Buckeye State. Come and enjoy a weekend exploring and relaxing in the Southern Ohio Mountains!
Surrounded by bucolic beauty and some of the Buckeye State’s most beguiling flora and fauna, this cabin in Peebles really is the perfect place for a long weekend away from, well, everything! There’s a reason it’s among the best places to stay in Ohio. Your next vacation awaits!
