This Strange Ohio Attraction From The Past Is Beyond Bizarre
Once upon a time, a mystery house near the shores of Lake Erie defied gravity and dinosaurs roamed Ohio.
Well, sort of. If you remember the northern Ohio attraction in Marblehead called Prehistoric Forest and Mystery Hill Family Fun Center, then you know what I’m getting at.
For 57 years, this family fun attraction baffled visitors with the legend of Mystery Hill and delighted children with life-sized, custom built dinosaurs. The 10-acre park and mystery house was built in 1953. The park featured a “Dinosaur Dig” in which children uncovered fossils (some authentic and some not so authentic), miniature golf and a mile and a half of trails though the “Prehistoric Forest,” where visitors found more than 40 fiberglass models of the extinct friends and other sorts of creatures—some of them stretching more than 20 feet high into the air.
The park also featured Mystery Hill, a manmade optical illusion and house where water ran uphill, chairs hung from the walls with no support and visitors were able to stand at impossible angles—seeming to defy gravity itself.

Sadly, Prehistoric Forest and Mystery Hill Family Fun Center closed in 2010 at the end of the summer season. Today, anyone who’s interested in keeping a piece of the park alive can actually purchase some of the park’s dinosaurs.
