Shawnee State Forest is another stunner; it's the largest state forest and affectionally referred to as "The Little Smokies of Ohio." But there's nothing little about this park; it covers 63,747 acres, boasts 60 miles of bridle and hiking trails, 60 miles of backpacking trails, 58 horse campsites, and an 8,000-acre wilderness.
What are some fun day trips in Ohio?
When it comes to The Buckeye State, there’s much to see and do. The Akron Zoo is a favorite, and features a wide variety of exotic animals, beautiful gardens, and even some rides that kids will absolutely love. It has everything you love about the big city zoos without the massive crowds. The summer season lasts from April through October, though, so plan accordingly! For a truly unique experience, there's an international grocery store in Fairfield that literally feels like an amusement park.
