I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Ghost hunting is a favorite pastime in the Buckeye State. With our long and rich history, there are numerous places in Ohio known for their paranormal activity, from Cincinnati’s Music Hall and Spring Grove Cemetery to the infamous Mansfield Reformatory. But a haunted cemetery at a castle? That’s a story straight from the Grimm Brothers — and it’s precisely what you’ll find at Heyd Cemetery, a graveyard at Landoll’s Mohican Castle that just might be the most haunted cemetery in Ohio.
Located deep in the heartland of central Ohio, Landoll's Mohican Castle is a place of unprecedented and unexpected luxury. As its name suggests, this one-of-a-kind spot was designed to emulate the beauty of European castles by local entrepreneur Jim Landoll.
It opened to the public in 2002 and features myriad pointed towers and spires, as well as lush foliage and greenery that's downright enchanting -- especially during the height of fall foliage in Ohio!
Located within this magical kingdom, there is a place that's, well, cursed. This is Heyd Cemetery, a 230-year-old gravesite in Ohio that's a hotbed of haunted and paranormal activity.
In fact, Heyd Cemetery is so haunted and full of ghosts that Landoll's Mohican Castle hosts regular ghost hunts through the castle grounds. Even though the castle itself dates back only about 20 years, Heyd Cemetery was established in the early 1800s, and there are plenty of stories swirling about this haunted hotspot in Ohio.
Many have encountered a ghostly child wandering the grounds of Landoll’s Mohican Castle. Known as the “little girl in blue,” she mostly haunts the old graveyard on the property, surprising more than a few guests and staff members of the hotel -- whether they're on a haunted tour or not.
An old church, dating back to the 1830s, used to stand next to the graveyard. There’s a story behind that, too, but you have to take the tour to hear it!
