On an average day, Ohioans face traffic hold-ups and detours due to rush hour or winter weather. This past weekend, however, an unexpected hold-up along SR 517 is still being cleaned up.

Approximately 10,000 tons of corn was spilled in New Carlisle, Ohio just before midnight on Sunday and scattered across SR 571. The spill came from a silo at Miami Valley Feed and Grain Company. As a result of the collapse, power lines were taken down, buildings were damaged and it’s estimated that the silo was holding more than $1 million worth of corn at the time of the collapse. While the cause of the collapse is unknown, fortunately, no employees or residents were on site at the time.
