“You don’t have to be local to love The Maid-Rite.” That’s the truth of the matter, proudly declared on the famous small town Ohio eatery’s website.
Although the Maid-Rite franchise didn’t start here, something else certainly did. Greenville, Ohio is the proud home of the iconic Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe, a modest joint that some might call a “hole-in-the-wall” visitors come from miles away to experience. Known for their mouthwatering loose meat sandwiches, milkshakes and Coca-Colas, (because they just taste better here), this unassuming sandwich shop is an Ohio classic all Ohioans need to visit at least once.
When you're in the Greenville area, you've got to stop at the Maid-Rite. It's not like other Maid-Rites you may have visited.
The unsuspecting sandwich shop has been family owned and operated since 1934. It's the place you come home to after you've been away or gone to college far away.
The Maid-Rite franchise actually started in the mid 1920s in Iowa. They're known for their loose meat sandwiches across the U.S.—but none took off quite like the Greenville shop did.
Be sure to order a Coke with your sandwich. Rumor has it, it just tastes better here.
The Maid-Rite sandwich also comes with a choice of mustard, pickle and onion. The Big Jim is another popular choice. It features ham and cheese in addition to the loose meat.
They're prepared for the crowds here—because they always come.
Oh, and one more thing: When you stop by, you'll likely notice an abundance of chewing gum sticking to the exterior of the building. Rest assured, it's completely normal and the owners are well aware.
