Ohio has its fair share of paranormal activity. From abandoned homes to sanatoriums, spooky tunnels, and just about everything in between, discovering something frightful is all too easy to do here in the Buckeye State. Today’s destination is perhaps one of the most notorious of Ohio’s haunted places. Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland measures nearly 300 acres and contains over 100,000 individual gravesites. And while this cemetery is undeniably marked by peace and reverence, it’s also true that it’s renowned for its paranormal activity. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful destinations in Cleveland, Lake View Cemetery is one that belongs on every traveler's radar. Countless testimonies and accounts suggest there's an otherworldly side to this destination.
Aside from showing off breathtaking views of downtown Cleveland as well as the famous Daffodil Hill that blooms every spring, this destination is notorious for its ghostly activity.
And, as you might have guessed from the cemetery's name, it's possible to see all the way to Lake Erie on a clear day.

Much of the paranormal activity centers around former U.S. President James A. Garfield, who is buried at Lake View Cemetery. According to legend, in 1979, a man who identified himself as Garfield called the fire department to ask about a fire at the cemetery.
The fireman immediately shut down the inquiry before being corrected by what some believe to be the President's ghost, who replied "But I did not say that the fire had already happened--it is going to happen." Just over a week later, the maintenance building at the cemetery caught fire.
The effect of weathering, or perhaps something else altogether, gives the angel's bronze face the appearance of weeping. Some have reported hearing the faint sound of crying near this particular gravesite. Could it be true?
Of course, you don't need to be motivated by the potential of paranormal activity to visit this Cleveland landmark. The cemetery offers so much in the way of history, architecture, and beauty.
It's important to note that Lake View Cemetery is still in use today, and visitors should be respectful of any burials taking place. Summer hours are from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., and winter hours are 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
