Ohio may be located in the middle of the country, but that doesn’t make it entirely landlocked. There are actually many gorgeous waterways throughout the state — including Lake Erie, one of the country’s Great Lakes! That means the state is a haven for kayaking, and kayaking is a great way to see Ohio in a new light. Here’s one of our favorite trails.

Ohio is spotted with gorgeous lakes and rivers — and of course, one of the Great Lakes, Lake Erie, is in Ohio, too.
One of the prettiest and most interesting kayak trails in Ohio takes you throughout the Lake Erie Islands.
There are many Lake Erie Islands water trails, and they all show you a new side of the area.
Our favorite trail is probably the Mainland Trail.
You can kayak up to 30 miles on this trail, which takes you to a variety of spots within the Lake Erie Islands.
You get to see Lake Erie,
Sandusky Bay, Kelleys
Island and South Bass
Island on this trail.
It starts at Catawba
Island State Park and ends at
Marblehead Lighthouse.
One of the highlights is when you paddle through the Great
Egret Marsh Preserve.
This preserve lets you experience beautiful marshlands and see the most unique and gorgeous birds.
The shoreline is ever-changing along this trail, going past towns, wooded areas, and more.
Pull up wherever when you'd like a break from the water!
Ohio's Marblehead Lighthouse is the oldest continuing operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes.
Such a lovely, historic site makes for a great ending point.
It's truly an awe-inspiring experience on the water.
It's a great workout and a great way to experience the islands!
