Ohio is full of charming and friendly communities, ranging in size from a few hundred residents to several thousands. From north to south, there’s much to love about The Buckeye State. One of the most incredible regions to visit in the state is Northeast Ohio, where big cities, suburbs, and farmland peacefully coexist. Medina is a charming historic community located about 30 miles south of Cleveland.
This pretty suburb is overflowing with charm. It was founded in 1818, and the community has beautifully maintained its buildings and overall nineteenth century milieu. It feels quite a bit like a real-life model train town, a fact emphasized by the railroads that criss-cross the city.
Medina is home to more than 25,000 people, but it has an incredible small town feel.
Like many of Ohio's communities, Medina is a neighborly place. People are friendly, meaning you'll be greeted with smiles and nods during your visit. This community, with its incredible gazebo placed in the center of Historic Medina Square's Uptown Park, is almost always active with foot traffic.

This picturesque town is, historically, home to some super cool people.
Pictured here is local jeweler, beekeeper, candle maker, and publicist Amos Ives Root. Root was a pioneer of beekeeping, and he regularly documented his thoughts in his publication Gleanings in Bee Culture... and by that, we mean all of his thoughts. Root wrote of the accomplishments of a pair of brothers from Dayton, the Wright Brothers, in his beekeeping magazine. This turned out to be the first published account of the Wright Brothers' historic flight.

And those residents have left their mark on the local community in an amazing way.

During your visit, you will find that Medina is full of stunning architecture.
Everywhere the eye lands near Historic Medina Square is stunning. Just take a look at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, a historic structure built in the 1880s. Its gorgeous facade was the brainchild of Gordon W. Lloyd, an architect famous for designing buildings like Christ Church Detroit and Cathedral of St. Paul in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Locals enjoy savoring the finer things in life, including good food and good company. Miss Molly's Tea Room and Gift Shop is a Victorian-style tea room that's almost too darling for words. It's the perfect place to catch up with friends.

There are all sorts of delicious dining destinations in Medina. One such place is Amuse Euro Bistro, where French and Italian-inspired cuisine takes center stage. Castle Noel is a year-round Christmas movie museum that's absolutely enchanting. Attached to this awesome business is Alien Vacation Mini Golf, which is (ehem) out of this world. Coupled with several parks and walkable neighborhoods, there's enough going on in this community to justify a day trip.
Medina is so worth a visit, but be careful... you just might fall in love with this community during your visit.
Over the years, this community's population has steadily grown as more and more people recognize its charms. It's an incredible day trip destination, but it might also become your home away from home.
