Punderson Manor sits on the scenic grounds of Punderson State Park in northeast Ohio. The land was first developed in the early 19th-century, when it served as the site of a grist mill and distillery. The land has changed hands many times over the years, until the state of Ohio turned it into a lodge and resort in 1956. However, according to the resort employees, spooky reminders of its long history still linger inside the building. Staff and visitors have reported experiencing unexplained and paranormal encounters inside that manor that make the past feel very much alive.

The first hotel was opened on the property by a man named James E. Wales in 1887.

He and his wife owned and operated the successful hotel, featuring music, dining, boating, and even fireworks shows, for two decades.
W.B. Cleveland built the original “Big House,” where the manor house now sits, after he took ownership over the land in 1904.

He ran the property until the 1920s, when health problems rendered him incapable of managing the land.
A millionaire named Karl Long then took over the property, and began construction on an English style Tudor mansion for his wife in 1925.

The property reverted back to the state of Ohio, and construction on the mansion was finally completed in 1956. The 8-room manor was opened to the public that November.

Since then, renovations have expanded on the Punderson Manor to include 31 guest rooms, a golf course, tennis courts, dining rooms, and indoor and outdoor pools.
However, since the manor opened its doors, employees of the resort have reported seeing unexplained occurrences, like doors opening and closing, faucets turning on and off unassisted, and even inanimate objects like pencils flying across the room.

Others have heard sounds of laughter and felt cold spots in the hallways.
In one terrifying account, staff members recalled seeing the figure of a lumberjack hanging by a rope from the manor’s ceiling late one evening.
