I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
There are all sorts of getaways in Ohio, from cozy cabins and luxurious resorts to lofty treehouses and historic inns. An English manor, though… in Ohio? Maybe in Salem, Massachusetts, or perhaps the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, but not, say, a lodge just outside of Cleveland. And yet this is exactly what awaits at Punderson Manor State Park Lodge, a gothic getaway in Ohio where you’ll be welcomed by a stately stone gargoyle.
Punderson Manor is an English Tudor-style lodge just outside of Cleveland. This stately inn is located on the banks of Punderson Lake, a 150-acre glacial lake that's one of the deepest and oldest in the region.
A paradise for Ohio nature lovers, Punderson State Park is a 741-acre oasis that's breathtakingly beautiful, and the stately manor perched atop a hill sets the stage of a wholly wondrous and unexpected experience... especially when you discover what -- or rather, who -- is waiting at the manor doorstep.
This is Lemmy, the park's resident gargoyle. He actively guards the grounds of Punderson Manor, making this extraordinary estate feel all the more mysterious. He's in good company, too, as stone statues dot the grounds of this gothic manor, seemingly around each and every corner.
Inside this grand getaway, historic estate rooms offer a unique overnight experience. You'll be staying in the original part of the manor house where the English-tutor style architecture is well-preserved and offers a step back in time.
Of course, while the lodge is certainly antiquated, it's been lovingly updated with modern amenities in a way that maintains the building's historic bones. This indoor pool is a prime example... look at those lovely wood beams!
A place that's a true sum of its parts, the surrounding scenery of Punderson Manor is lush and a bit mysterious, the kind of place where your imagination will run wild!
Have you stayed at Punderson Manor State Park Lodge before? Did you know about this gothic getaway in Ohio? What a marvelously unique vacation spot in the Buckeye State!
