This park just north of Dayton is a 618-acre expanse filled with a diverse habitat of scenic creeks, rolling hills, dense woods, wildflowers, fields, prairies, wetlands, and wildlife. The largest of the trio dubbed the Big Sister, is one of the two largest trees in the MetroParks, with a circumference of 226 inches, a height of 141 feet, and a crown spread of 93 feet. The Trolley Garden, for example, is an outdoor train that runs along tracks built on tree branch bridges and tree trunk tunnels. There are trains everywhere: running above adults’ heads and down within kids’ reach.

This is Rentschler Forest MetroPark, a beguiling hidden gem in Southwest Ohio that's straight out of a fairy tale. The park has over 400 acres that include acres of woodland, about a half-mile frontage along the Great Miami River, remnants of the old Miami-Erie Canal, a prehistoric Indian earthwork, a reconstructed wetland, and ample opportunities for a wide variety of outdoor recreation activities.
