I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
It’s no secret Hocking Hills is among the crown jewels of the Buckeye State. Lush and lovely, full of well-known waterfalls and hidden caves, this expanse in southeast Ohio’s Appalachia is a glorious, downright gorgeous playground for outdoor recreation of all kinds. While accommodations abound in the area, we found an impossibly charming cabin that’s off the beaten path, yet still, somehow, in the heart of it all. This cozy tiny house is a delightful home base for your adventures in Ohio’s Hocking Hills, immersing guests in the sublime scenery of the region.
Hocking Hills is one of the most resplendent regions of the Buckeye State and home to the greatest natural wonders in the Midwest. The region offers some of the most sublime scenery and bucket-list-worthy outdoor recreation: the hiking here is second to none and the scenery is such that will take your breath away.
Hocking Hills is a treasure trove of trails -- the hikes within this 2,356-acre Ohio State Park feature incredible natural wonders like waterfalls, caves, cliffs, and rock formations, making this site a "choose your own adventure" for Ohioans.
Whether you're traveling with kids in tow, a seasoned hiker, or in need of ADA-accessible trails, you'll find your perfect adventure in Hocking Hills. You might, however, find yourself enjoying the region's acclaimed attractions with lots of fellow outdoor enthusiasts, and while there's certainly enough ground to go around, finding a secluded "home base" is a wonderful way to keep the experience serene and peaceful.
A cozy home base like Hiltop Haven: The Top Deck, an impossibly charming and cozy tiny house tucked away on 100 peaceful acres in Ohio's Hocking Hills.
This modern, farmhouse-style tiny house is, if you can believe it, a shipping container. But it's easily the most rustic chic shipping container you'll ever encounter -- or have the pleasure to spend the night in.
Somehow, against all odds, the inside of this tiny house feels simultaneously bright and open yet also charming and cozy. There is one full bedroom and one full bathroom, and all linens and basic kitchen furnishings are provided.
Please note: firewood can be purchased for $5 a bundle and paid for when booking the home. Please do not bring your own firewood, as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Department of Agriculture are trying to stop the spread of invasive species and ask that folks use wood purchased locally.
After a busy day spent hiking the area's many trails, venturing up rock staircases and into hidden caverns, I personally cannot think of a better way to relax than this.
Not only is Hiltop Haven one of the most unique places to stay in Ohio’s Hocking Hills — this tiny house is truly one of the best places to stay in all of Ohio!
