Luckily, I’ve done the (ahem) homework and found what can only be described as the most charming rural Airbnb in Ohio: The Schoolmaster’s House in Zoar!
The town of Zoar, Ohio, was founded in 1817 by a group of German Separatists seeking refuge from religious persecution. They settled in Ohio as the Society of Separatists of Zoar. Over 200 years later, the village of Zoar is home to more than 50 of the original historic structures and buildings, making it a treasure trove for history lovers.
The Schoolmaster's House is certainly one such treasure. This historic farmhouse in rural Ohio has been converted into an impossibly charming Airbnb that's the perfect mix of old and new.
Step inside and you'll immediately feel a sense of history and place; the first level greets guests with a comfortable living space that includes an electric fireplace with heat for added ambiance and warmth in the cooler seasons, plus antiques such as an antique checker/game table and game chest with a selection of games for all ages -- screen free, of course!
A record player with a small vinyl selection helps set the mood, as do the vintage toys, leather-bound books, and old-fashioned school bell sitting on the antique desk.
What's so wonderful about this rental is how it deftly toes the line between classic and modern. The kitchen, for example, is outfitted with modern appliances *and* original hardwood wood floors and furniture.
The full bathroom is equally classic-yet-modern, featuring white subway tile, a jetted tub, and modern farmhouse furnishings like candle-style lighting and hardware.
When it comes time to dine, you have options: in addition to the antique table in the home's formal fining room, there's a glorious back porch perfect for savoring a morning coffee or post-dinner glass of wine.
And on those chilly evenings in rural Ohio, it might be hard to pull yourself away from the gas fire pit in the backyard, which is surrounded by comfy Adirondack chairs and adorable little lamps!
As comfy as this country house is, it's definitely worth exploring Zoar during your stay. Historic Zoar Village is a vision of cute little shops and green spaces; the Zoar Iron Bridge is an Ohio icon; and Soul Sisters Cafe might just be the best-kept secret in Ohio!
